Newcastle United sent Marc Guehi fitness message as Oliver Glasner shows Crystal Palace hand
The Magpies have had two bids knocked back for the England international, with Palace reportedly holding out for a fee in the region of £65m. As things stand, the two parties are still some way apart in their valuations of the centre-half, but Newcastle are still confident they can strike a deal.
Oliver Glasner started Guehi for the first time in pre-season, after the 24-year-old was given an extended break due to his endeavours with England at this summer’s Euro 2024 campaign. The Palace centre-half was one of the standout performers for Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions as they reached the final of the competition this summer, where they were beaten 2-1 by Spain in the final.
His first appearance for the Eagles this summer will be a welcome boost for Newcastle United, if they are to strike a deal, knowing that Guehi is fit and up to speed ahead of the Premier League curtain raiser next weekend. Eddie Howe’s side are currently sweating on the fitness of Fabian Schar after the Swiss international limped off in Newcastle’s Sela Cup win over Brest.
