Watford FC: Why a town centre pond may be the biggest attraction in Hertfordshire this weekend - HertsLive

Former Celtic player Brian McClair has suggested that Celtic should consider signing Ryan Porteous to strengthen their defensive lineup.

Celtic’s current defensive strategy relies heavily on Cameron Carter-Vickers and Liam Scales as the primary centre-back duo. However, with potential exits looming for fringe players like Gustaf Lagerbielke, Maik Nawrocki, and Yuki Kobayashi, there could be an opening for additional players.

McClair sees Porteous as a viable option to not only deepen the squad but also challenge the starting lineup, despite a challenging performance with Scotland at the Euros.

He told Football Scotland: “I think they could do with a centre-half to push Scales and Carter-Vickers.

“Someone who I’ve liked but I don’t really know as a person, is Porteous who left Hibs for Watford. I know he didn’t have a great Euros, but he’s the type of player who I’ve seen who I thought could potentially be of interest to Celtic and someone who I think could push those players for a start. He might be more of a CCV type of player than a Liam Scales type of player.”

This isn’t a transfer I see happening in all honesty, I don’t think he’d fit into Celtic at all.Celtic do need to add some quality at centre-back, but I don’t think the former Hibs man will be that player.

A striker and a left-back need to join the Celtic arrivals this summer, with Adam Idah looking likely to head up the road to Glasgow.
