Stade Rennais have added to their midfield with the signing of 20-year-old Jordan James.

James becomes the third midfield recruit of the summer for the Brittany-based club, following the arrivals of Albert Grønbaek and Glen Kamara.

James debuted for Birmingham City in 2021. He was named Birmingham City’s Young Player of the Season in his debut senior campaign. Last season, he played in 42 matches, scoring eight goals.

On the international stage, James initially played with Wales’ youth teams and later with England’s U20s. However, James ultimately chose to represent Wales, his father’s country, and has since earned 11 caps, including participation in the Euro qualifiers.

Upon joining Stade Rennais, James expressed his excitement about the move, stating, “I am thrilled to join Stade Rennais F.C., an ambitious and great club. This is a perfect opportunity for me, and I’m very excited. I can’t wait to play with my new teammates and experience French football and Ligue 1. I’m ready.”

“We came away disappointed, as I thought we were the better team,” said Sessegnon, who has been tipped for a leadership role this year by boss Shaun Maloney. “In terms of our build-up play, keeping the ball, playing out from the back, our attacking threat, I thought we played well.

“We have to be more ruthless, more killer, in both boxes to be fair…they were more killer than us on the day. If we can tighten up, and continue to create chances, it’s got to come, surely.

“We have to go again and put things right. If we keep playing like that, with a couple of tweaks, we’ll be fine.

Wales international midfielder Jordan James (20) has officially left Birmingham City for Rennes, both clubs have announced. Les Rouge et Noir reportedly submitted a €5m bid to the League One outfit and the latter has accepted it. James underwent his medical with his newest club this Monday morning once personal terms had been agreed. The versatile 20-year-old midfielder is the sixth signing of Rennes during this summer transfer window following the arrivals of Abdelhamid Aït Boudlal, Albert Gronbaek, Glen Kamara, Leo Ostigard and Hans Hateboer.
