Ian Wright says he would have wanted Arsenal to sign player now at Tottenham after Gary Neville’s question

Arsenal won the bragging rights over Tottenham Hotspur last season by beating Ange Postcoglou’s in their backyard.

Many know what they are going to get from Mikel Arteta and his players ahead of the new Premier League season.

From a starting XI perspective, not many changes need to be made, with Arsenal’s standout signing being Riccardo Calafiori and the Italian now hoping to fit in at left-back.

But for Tottenham to try and close the gap on their bitter rivals – Arsenal finished a mammoth 23 points ahead last term – then more quality needs to be added to the starting XI and bench.

And with the summer transfer window set to slam shut at the end of the month, Spurs have been pretty busy and more arrivals could yet come in.But there is one signing that Tottenham have made that Ian Wright admitted he would have wanted at the Emirates.

Gary Neville asked the Arsenal legend if he ‘expected’ Arsenal to bring in Dominic Solanke – Tottenham secured Solanke’s signing in a club-record deal from Bournemouth over the weekend.

And Wright made it clear ‘it wouldn’t have bothered me if they went for Solanke’, as he told Stick to Football.

After all, the 26-year-old, who came through the ranks at Chelsea, is a boyhood Arsenal fan, but he will represent the other side of north London now.

“Will they sign more,” asked Gary Neville about Arsenal’s summer transfer window. “Where do you think? Would you have expected them to be in for Solanke?”

Wright then responded: “It wouldn’t have bothered me if they went for Solanke. The thing with Gabriel Jesus and Martinelli, Martinelli lost his place to Trossard kind of. Trossard came in and done really well.”

Fans won’t have to wait too long because one of the biggest derby games in English football will hit everyone’s screens pretty early on in the season.

Arteta and his players don’t have much to prove here because they have won three out of the last four fixtures, with the pressure firmly on Postecoglou.

But Tottenham are hoping to charge forward again and they don’t have just Solanke to call upon ahead of the fixture next month.

Tottenham also secured the signing of Archie Gray from Leeds United and the 18-year-old has had a wonderful pre-season amid the hype around him.
