Preston North End told ex-Barnsley boss is 'standout' next manager candidate

Preston North End have turned to former Barnsley, Leeds United and Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom as their manager. They parted ways with Ryan Lowe just one game into the new season.

It has been a tough start to the 2024/25 campaign for the Lilywhites with back-to-back losses. They were beaten by Sheffield United on the opening day before losing 3-0 away at Swansea City last time out.

The Lancashire outfit have until the end of the transfer window next Friday to bring in some signings as Heckingbottom looks to put his own stamp on squad.

Luton Town: Rob Edwards 'expecting the best and that's what we're preparing for' vs Man City - BBC Sport

As for Luton Town, they were relegated from the Premier League in the last campaign. They finished in the bottom three of the top flight along with Sheffield United and Burnley.

The Hatters lost 4-1 against the latter in their first fixture and drew 0-0 away at Portsmouth at Fratton Park last weekend. Rob Edwards’ side are looking for their first win as well and will be looking to cause problems for Heckingbottom in his first game.

“Paul Heckingbottom is a sensible appointment by Preston North End and he will be eager to start with a win in front of his own fans. The Lilywhites’ supporters will be hoping that their team get the new manager bounce and can pick up their first three points of the new season.

“Luton Town will be tough opponents though and have players who can hurt the hosts like Carlton Morris, Tahith Chong and Elijah Adebayo. Even though they haven’t had the best start to the campaign, they are still getting to grips with life back in the second tier.
