Leicester City fans celebrate Premier League triumph across the city - BBC News

Update on Sheffield United pursuit of Leicester City transfer may be bad news for one Blades player.

The summer transfer window has certainly looked like a promising one so far for Sheffield United.

Following their dismal relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season, the Blades found themselves needing something of a reset when it came to their playing squad.

Despite a slow start in terms of recruitment, amid talk of a takeover at Bramall Lane, there have been some exciting additions made by Chris Wilder and co.

Now it seems as though Sheffield United could also be on the verge of another exciting signing for the coming campaign.

Blades leading Tom Cannon transfer race

According to a recent update from journalist Alan Nixon, it is Wilder’s side who are now favourites to secure the addition of Leicester City striker Tom Cannon.

That is apparently despite interest from other Championship rivals Middlesbrough and Stoke City.

The signing of Cannon would certainly be a positive one from a Sheffield United perspective.

Back in 2023, the striker enjoyed an impressive spell on loan at Preston North End from Everton, where he showed his ability to make an impact in front of goal in the Championship.

He then joined Leicester on a permanent deal last summer, and despite being hampered by injuries, did play a part in their promotion to the Premier League last season.

Tom Cannon could replace Rhian Brewster at Sheffield United

Having signed for the Blades from Liverpool for a reported £23.5million back in the summer of 2020, Rhian Brewster has endured a difficult time of things at Bramall Lane.

In total, the striker has scored just five goals and provided only one assist in 80 appearances in all competitions for Sheffield United.

With that in mind, the signing of Cannon would surely be a worrying sign for Brewster when it comes to his prospects for the rest of the season.

The 24-year-old has already found game time hard to come by for the Blades this season, with just two late substitute appearances in the two league games they have played so far.

Instead, it has been the aforementioned Moore given the nod in the Championship, where he netted his first goal of the campaign in the draw with QPR last time out.

It is also worth noting that Cannon and Moore are both in strong scoring form when it comes to their recent Championship exploits.
