Ex-Preston North End and Sunderland manager lands new job alongside Gareth Southgate

Preston North End supporters wanted David Moyes back before Paul Heckingbottom was appointed but now the former Premier League boss has a new job.

Earlier this year, Moyes left his job at West Ham, ending a five-year reign which saw him win the UEFA Conference League with the Hammers. With him being out of work, supporters looked to Moyes when it was announced Ryan Lowe would be leaving, but instead former Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom was appointed.

The ex-Sunderland boss has found alternative work however with it recently revealed that he would be taking up a role as a technical observer for UEFA. He along with Gareth Southgate who recently stood down from the England job, will be tasked with watching Champions League games.

The new role will see him analyse games from a coaching perspective, where he will feed back his findings to UEFA to help improve coaching education.

Moyes and Southgate will compile detailed match reports, using video and data to highlight coaching and tactical methods. They will be afforded things such as multiple camera angles, which then can then be analysed.

This new job will help keep Moyes busy, as this is the first season in 26 years, that he hasn’t prepared for. His managerial career began with North End in 1998, as he took over from Gary Peters. He transformed them from a team in danger of relegation to a side that won promotion and were within 90 minutes of a place in the Premier League.

Moyes’ coaching career began when he started taking his coaching badges at 22, and for the last 22 years, he’s been a Premier League manager.
